Outstanding Contribution to London Football 2026 Winner

Ashley Cole

The Outstanding Contribution to London Football, sponsored by Weston Homes recognises a Player, Manager or Administrator who has made a significant contribution to football in London

We’re delighted to announce for 2026, that former Arsenal, Chelsea and England fullback Ashley Cole has been awarded the 2026 Outstanding Contribution to London Football award ahead of this year’s event.

A stalwart and legend of the game in England, Cole made over 500 Premier League appearances, along with 107 appearances for England to hold the record as England’s most-capped fullback in a career spanning 20 years.

Widely regarded as one of the best defenders of his generation, redefining the fullback position in English football, Cole began his career at Arsenal after growing up playing football in his local concrete cages in London. After making his debut in 1999, Cole would become a crucial part of a dominant Arsenal team which won three FA Cups and two Premier League titles, including the club’s famous invincible season in 2004.

Following his move to Chelsea in 2006, Cole continued to perform and add to his trophy cabinet, playing a key role in the club’s UEFA Champions League triumph 2012, alongside one Premier League title, four FA Cups, two League Cups and one UEFA Europa League title. He would eventually go on to make 229 appearances for Chelsea before leaving the club in 2014.

On the international stage, Cole made his debut for England in 2001 and went on to play three FIFA World Cups and two European Championships, whilst also being voted England’s player of the year in 2010. He’s since gone on to support the next generation of talent as a coach for England’s player pathway programmes.

Talking about his award, Cole said: “I’m very privileged to be honoured with this award. I’m very proud of where I grew up and where I was born, so it means a lot. I lived and breathed my area, and it shaped me into the person I’ve become. It just shows that dream big enough and put the hard work in, and you can do whatever you put your mind to.”

We’re looking forward to celebrating Ashley’s career with him on Thursday 5 March, 2026
